Carton & Company

Gerald Carton has been in the transportation business since 1959 ( he was 15 years old) when his family hauled lumber from the mill to Baltimore, Maryland.

During High School he worked on the loading dock for an LTL ( less than truck load ) carrier, Preston Motor Lines. By the end of the first year he was hooked! He returned every summer and had worked most areas of the process. Right up to billing.

In 1961 after entering the Army he was promoted and put in charge of the operations section of the Motor Pool in Korea with responsibility for aspects of "readiness and alert " functions in a "hostile" zone.

Upon his return to the civilian world in 1964 he spent 5 years at Continental Distributing at Kansas City, Missouri where he had the distribution responsibility for three states.

In 1968, after returning home to Vermont, he worked until 1989 in a global capacity providing transportation and co-ordination capabilities from Europe and Asia to points in the U.S.A. Our annual budget was small...about 52 million USD. During this tenure we were among the first to open with business going from the U.S. to Mexico.

In 1989 Gerald changed gears and started to work for himself, and with a partner began growing the company that would be Carton Co. In an agent capacity for a Mid-Western carrier, they were successful in helping to grow the Mid-Western carriers business substantially. Creating for them a North-east Hub in Champlain, New York. Since that time they have grown their agency to include their companies involvement in the loading and off loading of vessels for the U.S. Government effort during Desert Storm, Desert Shield and Enduring freedom.

On the international side we have assisted in the moving of manufacturing plants (Ford) from Canada to Mexico, Kentucky to Canada and Intra Canada and the United States as well.

On the domestic side we co-ordinate moves with-in the continental U.S. to the $6 million level annually.
